India's Mental health crisis

I had read this article today about the mental health crisis in India. I have been aware that such a crisis exists however I was still shocked by the statistics. It is reported that 10.6% of India's population suffer from an issue with their mental health, according to the National Mental Health survery in 2016.

The main barrier is access to treatment. The government hospitals are underfunded and there are just not enough psychiatrists - in the UK (population of 66mn), there are almost 13,000 psychiatrists whereas in India (1.3bn population) there are less than 4,000.
